WIAW 22-Cayenne Pepper and the GRE.

No more GRE for me…unless I did terrible on the essay part.  I needed a 298 on the verbal and math portions of the test and I got a little above that so oh-my-gosh-thank-goodness. I’m tired of going of walks with my vocabulary flashcards.  And I’m even more tired of the funny looks people give me while walking.  I’ll get my scores for the essay portion of the test in about 2 weeks.  Fingers crossed that my score won’t be killed because I didn’t quite finish one of the body paragraphs on my first essay.  So we’ll see!  Now it’s time to move on to the next step…applying to grad schools by September and then applying to dietetic internships by December.

So during the GRE I fully utilized my 10 minute break to eat some food.  I’d never had these “Caveman Quickies” before.  They were really good…

Except, lets zoom in a little…

Do you see that last ingredient?

Cayenne.

Whoa…not what I was expecting.  Especially when my water supply was limited.  It was delicious, just slightly hot and it woke me up for sure.  It didn’t help that I pretty much poured the entire granola-esque snack into my mouth because I am fully aware that my internal clock sucks and that 10 minutes was going to fly by way faster than I thought it would.  They tell you the clock automatically starts once that 10 minutes is up but I’m not sure if it actually does.  Anyways…

If you’re thinking to yourself, “Why would you eat something you’ve never tried before while taking the GRE?  What if your body hates it?  And then you do terrible on the test because (in my case) your mouth is on fire?”  Those, you wise people, are very legitimate concerns. I’m not the sharpest knife in the knife block.  And either are my knifes…yeah, they’re dull and I’m just special.

I thought having a snack I’d never tasted before would give me something to look forward to during the 4 hour test.  And it worked, I was looking forward to it but then it backfired.  That’s a 50% success, pretty good.  Actually, 50% is failing at pretty much every educational institution.  Hmm not so good.

But want to know what is good?

Peas and Crayons

Everything else I’ve been eating.  Beginning with this…

Breakfast:

PBGB Sandwich on Banana Berry Nut Oatmeal Breakfast Bread

PBGB = peanut butter + greek yogurt + banana

In my perfect world, everyday would start with a workout and then this breakfast.

It was like breakfast for dessert…wait, reverse that.

2nd Breakfast:

And because it’s summer, everyday must include a smoothie!

Strawberry Banana Smoothie (1 large frozen banana + 4 frozen strawberries + 1 cup almond milk)

Lunch:

Cabbage & Mixed Baby Greens Salad

Topped with

Leftover Chicken Tortilla Soup (eaten cold)

Avocado

Served with a peach on the side

Dinner:

Tuna Tacos (mash together 1 package tuna fish + 1/3 avocado + diced tomato + pepper)

Sauteed Kale

Orange [ sadly, it was not very juicy:( ]

Kale, not just for people…

And that’s Norman.  The same dog that has eaten a sock and chicken wire…and then had both surgically removed.  He’s special.

Can’t wait to see what you’re eating!

Anybody have any new and creative breakfast ideas? Please share!:)

  1. After I saw you post a few weeks back about mashing avocado with tuna, I’ve been OBSESSED!

I know I LOVE it too! And I can’t remember where I saw it…but a couple weeks ago, someone mixed tuna with hummus! I haven’t tried it yet but ohmygosh I’m sure it would be delicious. Maybe a hummus+avocado+tuna combination!

I want to eat that breakfast every day. My sister caught me leaning forward toward the screen, jaw dropped, brow furrowed while I was reading it and goes “Why are you making that face? Oh geeze you’re just looking at healthy food again.” Haha! Thanks for sharing! Happy WIAW :)

Oh & I love your idea about mashing tuna with avocado, as I’m not a big fan of avocado, I’m sure I can find something else to mash it with :) Have a great day!
