WIAW 26-When life knocks you down, do a burpee.

Guess what?! Houston got a Trader Joe’s…well, not exactly. But The Woodlands got a Trader Joe’s which is only like 30 minutes away from Houston. And on September 21st, two Trader Joe’s are opening actually in Houston. Yay! No more having to wait until Spring Break to go to Trader Joe’s:)

I’m really concerned that the magic and wonder that is Trader Joe’s will wear off after awhile…NOT!

It’s always going to be happiness.

What is it about Trader Joe’s that makes everything they sell seem healthy?

“What is that you say, sugar is the first ingredient?”

Who cares, it’s from Trader Joe’s! Put it in the basket!

It’s special sugar.

My love for Trader Joe’s is thanks to my parents who have a timeshare in Southern California (and their love is thanks to my grandparents who took them to california when they were young…my grandparents found this little gem of a town and my family has been going there for a week every year since the 50s.) So every Spring Break my family heads to Laguna and nothing scream “IT’S VACATION TIME” like Hawaiian shirt wearing employees and a $300 Trader Joe’s grocery bill.

So now it’s like it’s vacation time, all the time. Which is wonderful and perfect. Hurry up and get here September 21st:)

Another wonderful thing…instagram! I love it. It’s so much fun that I totally forget I only have a grand total of 12 followers:)

I’d love to follow you…my username is immaeatthat.

And a not so wonderful thing…genetics lab. Bleh. No I do not want to look at grasshopper testes under a microscope.

And with that, here is some food because it’s…

Peas and Crayons

Breakfast Cookie Dough

[1/2 cup oats+1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder+1 heaping Tbsp peanut butter+2 Tbsp unsweetened applesauce+1 Tbsp raisins+2 tsp pepitas+2 tsp shredded coconut…mix it all up and press it into a bowl]

Topped with Plain Greek Yogurt, Strawberries, Frozen Bananas

1/2 cup coconut rice

2 hard-boiled eggs

Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips

Sundried Tomato & Basil Hummus

I broke my rule and bought shelled pistachios…dangerous. I bought them because I wanted to make these. Have I made those…no. How many pistachios do I have left now? I don’t want to talk about it.

Stuffed Sweet Potato

Chicken, Shredded Cabbage, Tomatoes, Avocado

Topped with Greek Yogurt & Hummus (SO GOOD TOGETHER!!)

My favorite thing that I’ve made in awhile…Sweet Potato Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies.

Topped with pistachios and a melted square of dark chocolate

Glass of almond milk

And my favorite non-food thing I’ve made lately is…

Have a great rest of your week!

And if you’re having a tough week, do a burpee and get right back at it!

I love eating cookie dough for breakfast! And for lunch… And for dinner… And for dessert.
Those sweet potato cookies look great! And covered in chocolate is even BETTER.

I can tell you first hand, the mysticism of trader joes never goes away :)

    • Kylie — September 5, 2012 @ 8:19 pm (#)

Whew! That’s a relief:) In my book, yoga and trader joe’s are practically the same thing, both are good for the soul:)

First of all, the awe of Trader Joe’s will never go away! I totally agree that I’m blinded by each one of their products, even if it really isn’t that good for you :) It is just something about having a Trader Joe’s goodie that makes it all so much better! And DELISH sweet potato!

    • Kylie — September 5, 2012 @ 8:16 pm (#)

Speaking of sweet potatoes and trader joes…have you tried their sweet potato tortilla chips? So GOOD!

I still need to try a stuffed sweet potato since I am now OBSESSED with them! And that salad.. mmmm

    • Kylie — September 5, 2012 @ 8:14 pm (#)

They’re so great because you can put ANYTHING in your fridge on them and they usually turn out great!

Breakfast cookie dough – best idea ever! And I love the burpee print :)

    • Kylie — September 5, 2012 @ 8:12 pm (#)

I’ve been eating that cookie dough at all times of the day! Breakfast, snack, dessert…
      I’m in love with it:)

You should make it on your paleo cheat day!

I completely agree–everything from Trader Joe’s is just automatically healthy, cookies and chocolate treats included :) And um, that breakfast sounds amazing (and I just so happen to have recently bought some pumpkin seeds…from Trader Joe’s, haha). Added you on IG because I’m similarly obsessed with it despite having only a few followers :D

I mean, those Milk Chocolate Clouds are practically vegetables!

Thank you for the add on instagram! I added you too:)

Greek yogurt and hummus on a baked sweet potato? Why have I not tried this??? Thanks for the great idea!

    • Kylie — September 5, 2012 @ 7:57 pm (#)

It’s also great on top of stir frys! Saute up some chicken/tofu and vegetables, put those on top of some brown rice and then add big spoonfuls of greek yogurt and hummus:)

      • aftertheivyleague — September 5, 2012 @ 8:58 pm (#)

Ahh even more great ideas! Thanks!!

        • Kylie — September 5, 2012 @ 9:00 pm (#)

Haha I just commented on your blog at like the exact same time you commented on mine:)

Haha I love your writing style! :) You had me laughing so many times throughout this post. I totally get what you mean about everything being “healthy” from TJ’s. LOVE that place. I’m from Cali then moved to Colorado for a period of time for Grad school. There are NO, none, zip, nada Trader Joe’s there! I was having some major withdrawal. I’m back in Cali now & sooooo happy to have a TJ’s on practically every corner :) BTW, I <3 Laguna!

    • Kylie — September 5, 2012 @ 7:47 pm (#)

I’m jealous of your life! I savor every second I get to spend in California:) So do you live near Laguna? Our timeshare is at Laguna Surf…if you know where that is:)

And where did you go to grad school? My boyfriend went to school at Mines so I’ve spent a good amount of time in Golden:) A beautiful little town, but like you said, no trader joes!

  10. moderngirlnutrition — September 6, 2012 @ 5:45 pm (#)

How exciting!! I love Trader Joes! I literally laughed out loud when I read about the special sugar. So true!:)

    • Kylie — September 6, 2012 @ 7:30 pm (#)

      They have me so brainwashed!

  11. jessielovestorun — September 6, 2012 @ 6:03 pm (#)

Just like everyone else has told you, you’ll never everrr get sick of TJ.. I promise you!! Oh & your dinner, wow it looks amazing girl!!

I want you entire day of eats. Everything looks so good, especially the salad and the cookie of course.

That cookie might just have been the highlight of my entire day:)
