Before this post, my breakfast creativity seemed to be hitting a minor lull.
Or maybe just my breakfast appetite was hitting a lull. Regardless, it was lame. I needed something to get excited about in the morning…and I think this recipe will do it because anything with the word “shake” is totally something to fa-reak out (in a good way) about.
Gah I’ve really been craving a burger lately. Like I can’t even think straight because my mind is preoccupied with burger thoughts. Specifically thoughts for this burger from Tiny Boxwoods that’s made out of lamb + smoked goat cheese + aioli. Oh goodness. I don’t even know exactly was smoked goat cheese it but geeezzz I could go for some. And the delicious memory of that burger is all based on one bite that I snuck from Andrew when he ordered it. I ordered something completely inferior. Probably a salad. Gah I’m so boring sometimes. Plus, that restaurant looks like a dream. The whole place is like Great Gatsby meets Restoration Hardware. Gorgeous. But then again, I could also totally just go for a cheap, perfect burger from Smashburger. I think I’m gonna put “eat a burger” in my planner for the week. Necessities.
Friday night I locked myself out of my house for 15 minutes and was very nearly eaten alive by mosquitoes. Plus it was like 11:30 pm and I had just been watching Breaking Bad for 3 hours (again) so I was quite creeped out. But then I found my house key under a seat in my car. Not even sure how that happened. Kinda like I’m not even sure how it’s already September and I just stocked up on cans filled with autumn-ness. They will be a part of great things. For sure.
Okay, so I hope there is still a plethora of ripe, perfect peaches in your grocery store. Go buy them all and freeze them for breakfast shake making. Oh, or you could make a pie. I’d support that too.
There are so many things I wanted to do with peaches this summer and now peach-time is like gonna be over any day now. I need to get my stuff together and just go through an intensive peach recipe making regimen of sorts. Like a juice cleanse, but happy.
Peach Pie Granola Shake
Yield: serves 1
Ingredients:
smoothie
heaping 1/3 cup quick oats
1 cup almond milk, divided
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
scant 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1 date, pitted & chopped
pinch sea salt
1 large frozen banana
2/3 cup frozen peaches, chopped (since peaches are so delicious right now, I chopped up my own and froze it)
1/2 cup ice cubes
toppings
2 tablespoons granola (I used Trader Joe's Vanilla Almond Granola)
Directions:
In a bowl, combine oats, 2/3 cup almond milk, cinnamon, vanilla, chopped date and sea salt. Cover and place in the fridge overnight. In the morning, add that mixture to a blender. Add in the frozen banana, peaches, ice and 1/3 cup almond milk. Blend until smooth and creamy. Top with granola and garnish with a peach slice.
gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!!
Ahhh, I have to make this shake before peaches disappear! The added granola on is genius by the way :)
ummmm YUM!!
I LOVE oatmeal smoothies, especially when they involve peach. Naturally, this looks fantastic.
Also, there’s a Smashburger opening in my town soon, but no one I know has ever been to one before. Now that I know you’re a fan, I will definitely be making a trip there when it opens! :)
I don’t know why I’m sooo obsessed with it haha. I’m just a sucker for rosemary sweet potato fries:)
Well if they have those then I am SO going!
I just can’t get enough of peaches this summer–which is sad, because summer’s quickly ending. This looks so creamy and delicious. Yum!
I’m ALWAYS excited for breakfast…but I think I’d be even more excited if I knew this shake was in my future. It’s like a milkshake but fruitier!
Fantastic recipe! Made a variation of it this morning! Delicious.
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know it worked!! Ohh and now I’m curious, what type of delicious variation did you make?:))
What a great idea for a shake — and I love that straw!
Instead of 1 cup almond milk I used 1/2 cup of 1% milk and 1/4 cup plain, non-fat Greek yogurt. I omitted the date (because I didn’t have any) and added 1 TBSP ground flax. I also used slightly less quick oats and because I felt the need the make this immediately after reading the post, I just allowed the oats to soak in the milk/yogurt/spice mixture for about 5 minutes before I blended.
I made it again this morning :) Oh, and yesterday.
Yum! My breakfasts tend to be kinda blah, so I love interesting ideas like this!
