Pumpkin Pie Spiced Cantaloupe Smoothie

Breakfast time is the best time.

Contrary to popular belief (actually, not popular belief…just contrary to the title of this recipe), there is no pumpkin in this smoothie.  Deceiving, I know.  It just contains pumpkin pie spice.  But the smoothie is orange-ish and I guess I’ve been really into orange things lately because if you look at my instagram, all the pictures just look orange to me.  My whole feed looks like a bad spray tan.  Too much orange-iness.

And now here I am with yet another orange-ish colored recipe. But I do deserve a little credit because unlike 98% of my recipes, this one doesn’t contain oats! Look at me conforming to that whole “variety is the spice of life” thing.

Growing up, every single time we ate cantaloupe in my house my dad would always (always) say, “And just remember, you can elope…it’s cheaper!” And that joke is just made about five hundred times more funny now that we find ourselves deeply invested in wedding planning.  Today I have three wedding planning appointments: florals, linens, cakes.  All within 4 hours.

I’ve never really excelled out picking out cantaloupes.  I had a roommate in college that told me if they smell sweet then it’s gonna be a good one.  But I always feel like a mega creep when I’m sniffing cantaloupes in the grocery store.  It’s so satisfying when you pick a good cantaloupe.  Almost as satisfying as when you’re making your lunch in the morning before work and you are running late (per usual) and you’re searching for a lid that will fit your tupperware container and then you find the right sized lid and it’s just the best feeling ever.  You know?

So today I was going to post a recipe I made with popcorn that was inspired by this delicious popcorn recipe.  But I tried to modify the recipe way too much and it didn’t turn out.  And the house ended up smelling like burnt popcorn.  I tried to pretend like it really wasn’t that bad.  But it was, it really was.

When I wasn’t burning popcorn in the oven this week, I discovered this list and want to make every single thing on it.  All 101 of them.  But I don’t have enough time.  I have too much Breaking Bad to watch.  Actually I wouldn’t want to make the recipes that have queso fresco because I don’t understand queso fresco.  It has like no flavor.  Or maybe I’m just buying a cheap flavorless kind.  Like for instance, the cheese at chipotle…I don’t even know if it’s queso fresco but it has no flavor.  If I’m gonna eat cheese I wanna be able to taste it.

  1. Roger that on the tupperware lid comment- I always feel like I’ve completely won the day when that happens!
And pumpkin pie spice with cantaloupe? Super intrigued!

  2. I thought this was going to actually contain pumpkin… perhaps that would have been good, but I like the idea of pumpkin spice better. This looks really creamy too, which isn’t something that I usually associate with melons and smoothies. Usually more “icey.”

You need to give the popcorn another go I think. Which you are probably saying “Who does this girl think she is? Telling me what to do?…” Well, I just know that you’re a beast when it comes to the kitchen and that with another try you will have a killer photo-worthy popcorn recipe for me to gawk over soon :)

  3. I’m gonna list off my responses to this post again, because I feel like I need to converse:
    1) Breakfast IS the best time.
    2) I would never think to put pumpkin pie spice with cantaloupe. Sounds delightful!
    3) Cheese needs to have flavor, yo.
    4) SMASHBURGER OPENED! I asked my brother to take me soon, and he was like, “You don’t eat burgers…” Uh not always, but if there’s sweet potato fries on the side, and Kylie says they’re good burgers, I’m going.

  4. YUM!!! I can’t wait to try this… I am loving the pumpkin spiced everything this time of year! Love your blog! x
