Pistachio & Hemp Granola

This is my first hemp experience.

I bought a big bag of them and now I need you to tell me what to do with them.  I guess I can just sprinkle them on top of things.  Is that what we do with them?  They seem like the new chia seed to me.

I popped into Trader Joe’s to get the hemp seeds after my dentist appointment Tuesday.  I strategically picked my dentist based on it’s proximity to Trader Joe’s.  Maybe the discovery of my first cavity and this closeness to Trader Joe’s sweet chocolatey somethings are somehow connected?  I’m gonna turn a blind eye and say NOO.

Did you get shot presents growing up? Like if you had to get a shot at the doctor your mom would let you pick out a small something next time you went to the store?  Well we did.  And I’ve continued the tradition into adulthood because in adulthood you do what you want.  I still find the idea of push presents kinda silly.  But maybe I’ll feel differently after 9 months and labor.  But the trip to Trader Joe’s was my i-survived-the-dentist-but-still-have-to-go-back-in-two-weeks-to-have-this-cavity-filled present.

Oh childhood.  When I was a kid I was so sure that when I grew up I’d eat ice cream every night.  I didn’t understand why we couldn’t go to Dairy Queen more frequently.  But I think my frontal lobe developed at some point during that ice cream everyday thought process.  That, and self-serve froyo became a thing.  So now froyo appeals to me way more that Dairy Queen (most days).  And I just don’t crave ice cream everyday anymore, which is a relief.

Above was the point in my life when I regretted buying unshelled pistachios.

It was kinda soothing shelling them though.  Like yoga for your fingers.

This week is the first week I’ve had time to write a food blog since starting this blog 4 years ago.  I mean, there are flowers in the pictures.  That means you’ve got your stuff together (even if it’s just temporarily).  It’s great being done with school and homework and dietetic internships and the RD exam but, I’m not gonna lie, food blogging is kind of a lonely thing.

As soon as I got done with my dietetic internship I started working at a private practice (not my own) counseling weight management clients through a non-diet approach and eating disorder clients.  It’s absolutely where I want half of my career to be.  The other half is right here in this happy space you and me have created.  But since I’m so new to the practice I’m slowly building up a client base…therefore my schedule is very wide open right now, which gives me plenty of time to work on this happy space.

I love having so much time to work on the blog, but again the loneliness.  I’m so relieved when 4:30 rolls around and Andrew gets home from work.  I’ve tried putting on Ted talks or watching House Hunters/Pioneer Women during the day, but it’s just isolating being in a house all day.  I don’t know how people work from home.  I think it’ll help if I give myself a schedule and make my workday feel like a real workday even if it’s a blog workday.  However, a blog work day is a real work day.  Except it doesn’t feel like a real work day because the Today Show is on in the background talking about what Ariana Grande did or didn’t say.

I’m excited to have more time for blogging but I’m also really ready to have the private practice sessions pick up so I can get out of the house.  Now my getting out of the house usually involves going somewhere to buy something (i.e. iced coffee or workout clothes or new plates or Target-anything) that I don’t necessarily need.  I like getting up and going to a job.  Especially now before we have kiddos.

Phew.  Those are my feelings.

So granola.  I never get tired of seeing granola recipes.  I could look at them all day.  Especially the ones that have cookie in the title.  This one doesn’t have cookie in the title, but it’s still grrreat.

  1. Sounds like an awesome first RD job! I’m sure things will pick up soon once summer is over- I feel like everyone and their mom is on vacation right now. Makes me regret taking a spring vacation this year- lesson learned!

  2. Your first rodeo with hemp seeds!? I can’t go a day without ’em. Yes, sprinkle on everything and anything.

Love the idea of a pistachio hemp granola.

  3. Looks so good! Will be giving this a try for our beach vacation next week! I felt the same way as you about the push present… Until now! I’m pregnant with our first child and I have to say as rough as this first trimester has been, I definitely want a push present after these 9 months are over!! ;)

  4. I just so happen to have everything to make this with so I’m making it soon.. maybe tomorrow. ” I started working at a private practice (not my own) counseling weight management clients through a non-diet approach and eating disorder clients. Glad you are doing what your ideal career would be! :)

  5. This looks SO delicious!! My only problem when I make granola is I eat it all too quickly!

  6. This looks so delicious, I love your recipies and this looks like another one for me to try. Your recipies always come out really well and always taste great.

I am currently 6 months pregnant with baby number 2, and trust me, after morning sickness, carrying a large baby, labour and not drinking alcohol or caffine for 9 months, you will feel like you deserve a little treat xx

  7. I noticed your name changed to RDN…woohoo!! Way to go. SUCH an accomplishment! And I can totally relate to needing a schedule. But now with management rotations, I really miss my free time! I don’t know how you did your rotations and blogged at the same time…and I love that you’re working with eating disorders. I did a few weeks at an eating disorder hospital and absolutely loved…I would work there in a heartbeat. Good luck!!

  9. I think the grass is always greener. I have an office to go to and I prefer to work from home! I think you must be much more extroverted than I am. I love the quit and the solitude :) But we can definitely agree on this delicious granola!
