I’m in ooey, gooey, chocolaty, caramely love.  And I finally got golden flatware and I’m obsessed with it!!!!!! More on that later.  Later as in like 3 sentences from now.

So Hershey’s sent me their Hershey’s Caramels to experiment with.  I ate them with pretzels for a snack one day and then stuffed them in brownies the next.

It’s a tough choice but I think brownies > pretzels.  Maybe I should’ve added pretzels to the brownies.  Next time.

So last week I ordered this and this from West Elm.  I’d been wanting gold flatware for about 2 years now and saw these and had to have a set.  And that cutting board.  I’m going to have to refrain from using it in every post.  I have a chicken post coming your way that is made all the prettier because it is on the cutting board.  

It’s gorgeous.  

It could even make anything that came out of a crockpot look like a fancy schmancy dinner.

So these brownies.  

Coconut flour can really ruin all that is good (i.e. chocolate), but it turns out great in this recipe.  Then again, anything with chocolate caramels is bound to turn out pretty freaking delicious.

I topped the brownies with vanilla sea salt that I’ve had for the past 2 years and finally ran out of yesterday.  Waaah.  Time to go back to California.

And in other news.  They’re building a Whole Foods near our house!  

It’s one of the 365 Stores, which means maybe we’ll actually shop at it!!

Fingers crossed.  

We spend ~$125/week at the grocery store and try not to extend too far over that.  That price point doesn’t happen when we go to Whole Foods.  Or when I go to Trader Joe’s.  Probably because everything seems so shiny and tempting and my basket is full before I’ve crossed one thing off my grocery list.  

But I’m a firm believer that every once in awhile you just need a trip to WF or TJ’s for a bit of excitement in your life.  Or maybe I live a very boring life if my excitement is the grocery store?  But then again, if you’re reading a food blog then you heart grocery shopping too.  You get me.

So if there is something to do this weekend, it’s to go to Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods for some life excitement and then bake these brownies…for more excitement. 

Sea Salt Caramel Coconut Flour Brownies

A fudgy, grain-free dessert (to eat with ice cream, perhaps?)

Yield: 9 brownies

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes


1/2 cup coconut flour (I used Bob's Red Mill)
2/3 cup dark cocoa powder
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup honey
4 eggs
1/3 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste (or extract)
1/4 teaspoon salt
sprinkle of sea salt to garnish
9 Hershey's Dark Chocolate Caramels


Preheat oven to 350ºF.  In a bowl, sift together coconut flour, cocoa powder, and brown sugar.  Add in remaining ingredients, except sea salt & Hershey's caramels, and stir until a batter forms.  Pour half the batter into a greased 8x8 baking dish.  Press Hershey's caramels into the batter.  Top with remaining batter.  Add a sprinkle of sea salt.  Bake 23-25 minutes.  Allow to cool slightly before serving.
