My favorite homemade hot chocolate.

Welcome to another edition of things that make me feel holiday-y.

My favorite homemade hot chocolate! It's the perfect cozy drink to enjoy this holiday season. Made maple syrup, dark cocoa and chocolate. | immaEATthat.com

There actually was hot chocolate in the mug pictured above.  I wasn’t just drinking out of an empty glass.  Promise.

So before you make this glass of holiday chocolate cheer, you should get into proper hot chocolate drinking attire.  Proper hot chocolate drinking attire looks something like this.  Old leggings that are slightly stretched out and comfy.  Then fuzzy and/or knitted socks of some sort.  Then an oversized flannel shirt or sweater.  Then add a thick knitted blanket over top of everything.  And then you’re good to hot chocolate.

Just know that if you have a fireplace that you win this holiday season.  And…can I come over? I have no fireplace.  If you let me come over I’ll bring all the necessary ingredients for this hot chocolate.  There’s only 6 of them so it won’t be that difficult.  I’ll be right over.

My favorite homemade hot chocolate.

Yield: 1 mug (easily doubled/tripled/etc.)

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Cook Time: 2 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup milk (I used 2%)
1 tablespoon 70%+ dark chocolate, chopped
1/2 tablespoon special dark cocoa
1/2 tablespoon maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
pinch salt

Directions:

In a mug, combine all ingredients.  Heat in the microwave until milk is hot and chocolate is melted.  Serve immediately.  I frothed mine with a milk frother before drinking to make it a bit foamy on top.

  1. Yay for dark chocolate and dark cocoa!!! Im a huge dark chocolate perfect, so this hot chocolate suits me perfectly!! I would probably use canned coconut milk to make it even more creamy!

  2. love these cozy pics. makes me want to curl up with a cup of cocoa!

  3. So, I’ve never liked hot chocolate (are you shocked?!), but the whole darkness of this makes me want to try.  And a part of me wonders if peanut butter melted in, and a bit of salt might make it delicious… but that could be craaaaaazy talk :)

  4. Gah my heart! These pics.. that sweater… that mug of cocoa.. has me written all over it. I would like all of this every single night please.

you have to try this one! It’s my fav (I just cut it by 4 to make a single serving for myself haha)

  6. Yessss, this is so perfect right now. I’ve been on a hot chocolate kick, but I usually just use packets because I’m lazy. This sounds delicious! And the attire is spot on.

    • My dad bought me a Land O’Lakes hot chocolate sampler pack 2 Christmases ago. It has like 50+ packs of hot chocolate mix in it…it’s perfect for those lazy/I NEED HOT CHOCOLATE RIGHT NOW moments;)

  7. So cozy. <333 Come over to my parents house with me that has a fire place and bring your milk frother, too! Love the idea of a dark chocolate hot cocoa!

  8. Yum! Hot chocolate has been the only thing I’ve craved so far while pregnant (except for all the carbs) but I haven’t been very discriminating. I’ll have to give this a try, it looks so rich and tasty and I love that it’s sweetened with maple syrup.

  9. I have a fireplace! Come over!
