Day 3 of our San Francisco Trip

Here’s the last day of our San Francisco Trip (Here’s Day 1 and Day 2).

For the last night of our trip we moved locations and stayed at Fairmont Heritage Place, which is in Ghirardelli Square.  Fairmont Heritage Place is unique in that it’s not a traditional hotel, but it’s a Private Residence Club.  What does that mean? Well.  That means you can buy 1/10th ownership of a unit means you could live there for 35 nights throughout the year.  You CAN stay there for a nightly rate, but many of the rooms are owned and occupied full-time.  They offered us a discounted media rate for our one night stay and I loved this place.

I could TOTALLY get on board with staying there 35 nights of the year.  This place was a bit of a dream world for me.

Our balcony looked into Ghirardelli Square and out on Alcatraz.  It was incredible.  A vacation must involve water for me to completely love it.  I love the feel of getting to sit on your vacay balcony and look out onto the water.  I like being at the beach, but not necessarily ON the beach.

Onto our day! For breakfast, we woke up early (per usual) and walked to breakfast.

We went to Flour & Co., which I had found on Yelp.  Gosh, I love Yelp.  It is by far my favorite app (other than IG).

What made me decide on visiting Flour & Co. was that I saw they made breakfast sandwiches using a pretzel as the bread.  I thought that was so invented and sounded tasty.  When we got there though, I wasn’t feeling savory.  But Andrew was and he got the pretzel breakfast sandwich.

It was a bit of a moody morning for both of us, so I didn’t ask for a bite of Andrew’s sandwich lol.  Yay for spending a wee-bit too much time together.

For breakfast I went with their muesli (my body was still yelling, “GIVE ME FIBER.”) + a pastry + a latte.  This was my favorite meal of the trip.  It was perfect.

So cute inside.

After breakfast we walked over to Mr. Holmes Bakehouse.  They are famous for their cruffins! I’m sure the cruffins are great, but they kinda sound like a dry muffin to me.

San Francisco Day 3 | immaEATthat.com

We got to the bakery at 8:47am and they don’t serve their cruffins until 9am.  There was a crazy line for cruffins, but if you wanted something other than a cruffin you could go in and get it.  Woohoo for no line!

San Francisco Day 3 | immaEATthat.com

Their chocolate chip cookie looked totally insane.  So Andrew got us one to split later for a snack.  And then one of the bakers posed for me.  LOVE IT!

Then we walked around a bit.  Found some pretty stairs.  Then grabbed our luggage and an Uber to head to Fairmont Heritage Place to check-in.

After we checked-in, we walked around Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman’s Wharf a bit.  Then we sat down for a mid-morning cookie break.

We wandered a bit more and ended up sitting at some sidewalk tables with some drinks.  Then Andrew and I planned out some goals for the next couple of months/talked about what opportunities sound exciting to us right now.  Sometimes it’s just fun to sit and dream.

After that we went on a bit of a long walk back to the Ferry Building.  I wanted to go back their for lunch, BUT we didn’t make it because I got too hungry before we got to the Ferry Building so we stopped for lunch at a random lunch place we came across.

AND I’m so glad we stopped here! I loved this meal.  It was smoked salmon toast, but it was presented like a smoked salmon salad with a side of crisped sourdough bread and cream cheese.  The salad had these crispy (maybe fried, not sure.) capers that were wicked good.

After lunch we finished our walk to the Ferry Building.

When we had been there yesterday I had come across some mugs that I thought were beautiful.  I spent a day thinking about them and decided I wanted a couple.  The mugs were from Heath Ceramics.

They were a bit pricey, so I spent a good 10 minutes trying to decide which colors I liked best.  I wanted all 4!

Then we Uber’d back to Ghirardelli Square.  Even with the beautiful weather, I had zero desire to walk anymore.

Back at Fairmont we had more time to check out the room.  The balcony was HUGE.

You had a view of Alcatraz from the bathroom.  Ridiculously awesome.

This place also had a full kitchen and dining table.

There were two bedrooms. Bedroom 1. (My dad was annoyed when I told them there were two rooms.  I so should have invited my parents along for a night!)

Bedroom 2.  Each had the original brick from when the hotel used to be the Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory.

View from the outside.  Our room was the room on the top right with the balcony.

After relaxing for a bit we headed down to shop around the shops in Ghiardelli Square.

I fell in love with this store, Lola.

San Francisco Day 3 | immaEATthat.com

I ended up getting a Ban.dō, planner, a journal and a pen.  Oh! And there are the pretty mugs I bought earlier.

Soon after it was dinnertime.  We both wanted something casual so…

San Francisco Day 3 | immaEATthat.com

In-N-Out was a short walk from where we were staying.  I had never been and was excited to try.

I’m all about eating on/near water, so we got our meal to-go and headed down to the beach to eat it.

San Francisco Day 3 | immaEATthat.com

I went “protein-style” and got my cheeseburger bun-free.

No, buns aren’t bad.  Yes, I wanted to save stomach space for ice cream later that night.

San Francisco Day 3 | immaEATthat.com

I was impressed with how much I liked the burger patty! It was so good.

San Francisco Day 3 | immaEATthat.com

Plus fries.

After dinner we slipped into Ghirardelli and split a banana split.  I didn’t really care what we ordered and Andrew was feeling a banana split.  I just wanted to eat some kind of ice cream sundae in Ghirardelli Square.

Such a good trip.  I highly recommend San Francisco if you like water views, walkable/active vacations, and epic coffee shops.  LOVED OUR TIME THERE!

  1. I LOVE San Francisco! Glad you enjoyed! Also glad that my husband and I aren’t the only ones who get a wee bit crabby after a little too much togetherness….ha! Thanks for keepin’ it real :)

    • Seriously. We were a bit of a hot mess that morning. We ended up having a good day together, but then by like 7pm we were both ready for some alone time. I sat on the balcony for like 3 hours and he hung out inside. Space is needed sometimes!;)

  2. A pretzel breakfast sandwich?!?! I need to find this!

  5. I totally love how you listened to your body and you saved room for ice cream later.   Those cruffins sound interesting, and that chocolate chip cookie?  You found all the goodies there in San Fran.  San Fran is truly such a beautiful artsy city.  I love it a lot.   :)   Your view looks just perfect.   Ghirardelli square is one of my favorites.  If I had a big pocketbook, you would bet that I could buy so much chocolate for all my friends.

  6. That hotel looks absolutely adorable. I love the way it’s set up. I need to get myself there, if only New York wasn’t so far!
