five weekend favorites.
#one. We went to Hugs & Donuts.
Saturday morning Andrew and I woke up and went to Hugs & Donuts for breakfast. We got some bad news last week and wanted to get out of the house and keep busy.
This place is pretty fun. They have various flavors of milk and iced coffee on tap. So creative!
Plus, they had SOOO many cake donut flavors to choose from.
I’m team cake donuts all the way and Andrew is team classic yeast donuts. I got a cinnamon sugar donut and a blueberry donut with lemon glaze. Both were awesome. Andrew went with chocolate + sprinkles and another one that I think was strawberry cheesecake.
Their lattes were delicious too!
#two. Vine-covered House.
My favorite part of being an adult is getting to have a house that is covered in vines. I trimmed some of the ivy back this weekend and got attacked by some wasps. I took that as the universe telling me to let the vines grow. I love that they look messy and cover the whole house. It makes me feel like I’m living in a tree house.
#three. Church.
Life sucks sometimes. My little sister reminded me that one day, in Heaven, pain we feel here won’t be a thing. Knowing that brings me a lot of peace.
#4. Mexican Lasagna.
Friday night I layered doughy corn tortillas, salsa, shredded rotisserie chicken, a bunch of sautéed zucchini + tomatoes, a bunch of cheese, and a bunch of cilantro. I baked the whole thing for 30 minutes. Then topped it with guacamole, cilantro, feta and lime. We ate it all weekend. Yum.
#5. Afternoon thunderstorms.
We’ve been having a lot of random thunderstorms. It’ll be completely sunny, then it’ll just start thundering and raining. I love it. I spent a lot of the weekend listening to the rain and finishing reading The Girl on the Train. I enjoyed it, but I liked Gone Girl better.
Have a nice Monday, friends:)
i completely agree with you on life sucks (at times)..hopefully this will be a better week for you :(
i was in houston last weekend and its crazy how the weather changed from being all sunny to rain within a minute.
Houston is a bit ridiculous. I always say, “if you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes”…it’s all over the place!
Even with all of the wonderful things in life, it can indeed just plain suck sometimes. Sending love and positivity to you all. <3 I love your weekend eats and especially the donuts!
Thanks, Kori:)
Thinking about you and hoping everything is okay. <3
Thanks, Caitlyn<3
You should read The Good Girl next. LOVED IT!
Ohhh thanks for the rec. I’ve got a vacay coming up and I was in need of a book!
Yes to cake donuts! The other kind doesn’t even appeal to me. I think I am a fan of cake donuts because growing up my mom always bought those powdered ones that come like 20 in a bag!
I totally feel on life sucking sometimes, but It’s a great reminder that Jesus is enough and he gives real peace.
Lastly I ate fantastic tacos this weekend and thought of you.
I am pumped to know that when you eat tacos your mind drifts to me. BEST COMMENT EVER<3<3<3
I’m sorry you are dealing with some bad news. But hugs and donuts sounds like a fabulous uplifting place to go. I LOVE the name. And totes, team cake donuts all the way. How could you not like cake?!
Glad to know I’m not alone on team cake donuts :)
Sorry you had a rough week. ;-( I hope the donuts and church helped! I agree with you about the books: I liked Girl on the Train but I LOVE Gone Girl. Gillian Flynn is creepy but also kind of a genius.
I should read other Gillian Flynn books. I’ve never thought to! I like her too!
In regards to the above comment about tacos making Kate think of you, I made a breakfast taco this weekend that made me think of you too. You’re like the official taco spokesperson. ;) I LOVED it. I plan to have them in my life regularly now!
LOL to me being a taco spokesperson! Love it!!
I’m sorry that you got some upsetting news. I hope this week is full of more sunshine to drive away those clouds.
That donut shop sounds amazing! And your photo over the weekend made me crave donuts! I think I might need to get busy in the kitchen and whip some up :)

Put A Man Called Ove on your reading list if you like those two books! It has become one of my favorites :)
Yum on the mexican lasagna! Back home in Mexico, there’s this thing called “Pastel Azteca” that is basically a mexican version of a lasagna and it is nothing short of amazing.
