a Santa-ified appetizer (that is so easy peasy!)

ohmygosh I love this Santa-tastic recipe so much I can’t handle it.

This was one of those recipes that came out way better than I thought it would haha.  But than again I should’ve known because puff pastry anything is pretty perfect.  I have been wanting to make a pizza with a puff pastry crust for ages now…I have no idea why I haven’t.  Have you tried that? Gosh I’m such a thin crust person.  And I totally imagine Santa is too.  Perhaps Santa wants to go savory this year.  Instead of ‘cookies for Santa’, it’s ‘apps for Santa.’  Either way Santa is gonna be just so excited.  And you’ll be known as the girl with the epic appetizers and you’ll always be put on the nice list.  It’s true!

AND bonus points for this recipe because it is one of those super duper simple appetizers that can be whipped up in 20 minutes.  I mean, you prob totally have presents to wrap and family to visit and being stuck in the kitchen all day may not be high on your to-do list.  This recipe takes care of all that, because like I said…SO SIMPLE.  And if you have leftovers of it, you should totally make this into a lunch.  I paired several pieces of this Santa-rrific recipe with a salad and called it lunch.  Pretty fab.

Also.  I was at my parent’s house shooting this recipe and my Dad walking in and said, “why does it say ‘OH'”? Oh ha ha father.  So funny.  Not.

So I didn’t actually say what this recipe is.  Maybe that would be nice for me to mention.

It’s puff pastry topped with basil pesto and parmesan cheese.  I totally should’ve added some sun-dried tomatoes into this to play into the whole red-&-green theme this time of year.  But if the cheese gets crispy enough it ends up looking reddish, so we can just pretend there is red and green here.  Agreed? Agreed.

A Santa-ified Appetizer

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

2 rolls puff pastry
pesto
parmesan cheese
'H' and 'O' cookie cutters

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 400ºF.  Roll out one of your puff pastry rolls and top it with pesto and cheese.  Use the cookie cutters to cut 'H' and 'O's out of the other a puff pastry roll.  Top the pesto-cheese puff pastry the the 'H' and 'O's.  Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.  Slice like you would a pizza and serve.

  2. I’m dying over here…holy cow…

  3. Your dad’s comment cracks me up! This is perfect, and I agree that Santa would love a savory appetizer between all those cookies. ;)

  4. Ahh I love this – so fun and festive! And YES – you need to make pizza with a puff pastry crust. Life. Changing.

    Merry Christmas!

  5. Wow these look great!! Definitely might make this soon!!

  6. I haven’t tried a puff pastry pizza crust, but I have tried making a croissant pizza crust with the pillsbury dough. The flavour was awesome but it didn’t get the right texture because the toppings weighed it down so it didn’t get fluffy. I have a recipe I want to try for a phyllo lasagna, and I thought it would be cool to try a puff pastry lasagna too… ideas ideas.

  7. OMG puff pastry and cheese is probably my love language! This looks so great. Love the dad jokes too. The worst were when I was baking bread and my dad started in on the yeast puns!
