Ombré Raspberry Smoothie

This post was sponsored by the National Processed Raspberry Council.

I’ve never done the ombré thing to my hair, so I’m not left out…here I am doing it to a smoothie.

I’ve actually never dyed my hair.  Sometimes I think I’d like to one day, but then other days I’m like nahhh.  One reason being that my hair is crazy thin and fine.  I don’t think it looks thin because it’s curly/has volume, but I fear if I mess with it too much it’ll all fall out/get destroyed.  And that doesn’t appeal to me very much.  So for now, ombré smoothie over ombré hair it is.

I felt like making these smoothies was like watercoloring, because if you want more than three different layers of color, you can mix the layers like you would mix watercolor paint.  For instance, mix 2 parts of the least red layer with 2 parts of the medium red layer to make a new color.  Or mix 4 parts of the least red layer with 2 parts of the medium red layer to make a new color.  You could end up having a 50 layer ombré smoothie.  You could.  I wouldn’t recommend that because it would all melt.

I thought frozen red raspberries were perfect to use in this smoothie, because it reduced the need for ice so the delish raspberry flavor wasn’t watered-down and the red/pink color just POPPED.  Love it.  I think the above colors look like a paint palette.  So pretty.

I do think this recipe is super fun for kiddos because ONE it’s pink, TWO it’s fun to mix the colors together, and THREE raspberries have more fiber than any other berry and who doesn’t like fiber.  I hope you ENJOY!

And…if you are in the market for another cold raspberry recipe, give this berry cooler or this chocolate berry smoothie a try.

Ombré Raspberry Smoothie

Yield: makes about 4, 8oz ombré smoothie snacks

Ingredients:

most red layer
1 cup frozen red raspberries
1 tablespoon sugar
just enough water to blend

medium red layer
1 cup frozen red raspberries
1 cup vanilla ice cream
just enough milk to blend

least red layer
2 frozen bananas
1/2 cup frozen red raspberries
just enough milk to blend

Directions:

Blend the ingredients for each layer together one at a time.  Assemble layers into an ombré color.  If you want more than three different layers of color, you can mix the layers.  For instance, mix 2 parts of the least red layer with two parts of the medium red layer to make a new color.  Serve as cold as possible!

  1. This is so incredibly fun and pretty!! I think ombre smoothie > ombre hair. I wouldn’t want to keep up with the maintenance of colored hair. So pretty and creative, Kylie!

  2. This is such a fun idea! It’s kind of funny, at first my thought was “that’s a totally inefficient way to make a snack.” And then I thought, “actually, playing with our food is a GOOD THING, especially to allow us to connect with it, appreciate it, and remember that it’s more than fuel.”

Thank you for that very aesthetically pleasing reminder!

  3. So pretty! I finally dyed my hair when I was thirty (a year ago) because I started getting a ton of white hair. I guess I’m one of those lucky ones whose hair turns early ;) It’s kind of fun and feels like a special treat, but it is expensive! I’m contemplating touching up my roots myself to cut down on spending or just getting it done twice a year and embracing the white. I have super dark hair so when it grows in you can see it. Getting my period back, trying to get pregnant, going white. Whew, this has been a year of accepting my body as it changes!

  4. These are gorgeous!! Love the idea!

  5. I LOVE this! What would you recommend as a banana substitute? I have an allergy to them. :(
