Almond Butter Green Smoothie

Every blogger seems to have a green smoothie recipe.

So here’s to giving into peer pressure.

Just kidding. Kind of.

You really can’t taste any vegetables at all.

And try as I may, I’m not a big fan of raw kale.

But in this smoothie there is not even a hint of kale-iness.

All you taste is the sweetness of the banana and strawberries blended with the cookie-esque flavor from the almond butter.

Mmm.  I wasn’t expecting this to be so satisfying.  It was.

Almond Butter Green Smoothie

serves 1

1 large banana, frozen

6–8 frozen strawberries

2 Tbsp almond butter

1 cup almond milk

3 small kale leaves

1 1/2 cups spinach (or add until your blender if full)

Add the frozen banana, frozen strawberries, almond butter and almond milk to a blender.  Remove kale leaves from their stem and throw them in the blender also.  Fill the rest of your blender with spinach leaves.  Cover and blend until smooth.


  1. Oh wow. If that doesn’t look like the best green monster – heck, best smoothie! – EVERRRRRRRRR I don’t know what does. MUST. TRY. As soon as I get my summer apartment (you know the room I’m most excited about is the one with the fridge) in mid-May. :)

      It’s Alana again. It’s fine don’t even worry about it! I was wondering if you have any salad recipes that don’t require and meat or fish or poultry. I am a strict vegetarian so I was trying to find really good salad recipes. I don’t really eat yogurt and I only use almond milk in my cereal in the morning, so for smoothies as well, what recipes do you have that would only require the use of fruits and vegetables?

      • The best place to find my salad recipes would be to look back through my pictures on Instagram. I don’t have many salad recipes on the blog. One of my favorite salad recipes is one made with roasted garbanzo beans + roasted sweet potatoes + raw carrots + raw red bell peppers + arugula + balsamic vinegar dressing (balsamic vinegar+olive oil+salt+pepper+touch honey)…LOVE that salad.

        Unfortunately all of my smoothie recipes use almond milk. And the majority of my recipes contain more than just fruit and vegetables because they have a grain source…:/

  6. Love green smoothies! I usually make one very similar to this– usually sans strawberries but I will definitely add them sometime! Oooo I can use the mango and pineapple in my fridge. Now the gears are turnin’.

  9. Sounds like what I make every morning except I use silken tofu but have been looking for a change. Hoping the almond butter will be better. I also just use a lot of kale and no spinach, but I’m glad someone else is posting a recipe similar to mine so at least I know I’m on the right track!

    • Ooo tofu sounds like it would give the smoothie a fun texture, but soy tends to hurt my stomach…lame. And I’ve tried kale but kale has such a strong flavor! I feel like I can’t even taste the spinach, especially with the addition of the almond butter! But good for YOU:)) you’re way tougher than me…downing those kale smoothies:)

  15. Hi Kylie, do you have the calories on this smoothie? Not including toppings because I don’t top my smoothies

    • Hi Alana!! I’m guessing you’re the Alana on instagram too:)) Sorry I’ve taken so long to reply about calorie info! I’ve been away from my computer all weekend and haven’t had access to nutrient analysis software. Anyways, I’ll try to be better about posting calorie information/nutritional analysis!

      This recipe without the toppings is ~464 calories. And this is one of my all time favorite smoothie recipes…just so ya know;)

      • Kylie, I wonder if it would still taste as good if I use one half a banana and one tablespoon of Almond butter. That would bring down the calories somewhat and I need to loose some weight. What do you think?

        • Hey! I would say go for it! One tablespoon of almond butter would be plenty. You may want to keep the banana at a whole banana though…you don’t want the smoothie to be too green tasting;)
