How to make crab cakes.

Last night I made crab cakes for dinner and I wanted to share the recipe we’ve been making lately.  I feel like I should give a disclaimer that I live in Texas and crab cakes aren’t what we are known for, so I really have no idea how to make legit crab cakes.  If you would like to know how to make legit quesadillas, I can TOTALLY help you out.  But I think the below recipe is pretty tasty regardless of my crab cake making experience.

The recipe is inspired by my favorite cookbook.  You know, I really don’t like cookbooks.  I’d rather search online.  But that Seriously Delish cookbook is my favorite to cook/bake from and to look through with eating disorder clients when they are trying to start getting back in the kitchen.  I love that cookbook.  Perhaps one day I’ll write a cookbook.  How does one go about getting a cookbook deal? These are things I don’t know.  Perhaps I’ll figure it out.

These crab cakes are inspired Jessica’s crab cake recipe.

My recipe goes…

1/2 pound crab (i use claw meat because the lump crab costs $$$$$)
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons orange bell pepper, finely chopped
1 egg, lightly whisked
1 1/2 tablespoon greek yogurt
1 tablespoon dijon mustard
1 teaspoon rosemary, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, finely minced
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Combine all ingredients.  Form into small patties.  Cook over medium heat with olive oil.

With these I served a tomato + blue cheese + balsamic salad.

It was a nice fresh summer dinner.  ENJOY!

(pssst. feel free to critique my crab cake making in the comments below. because I really don’t know what I’m doing.)

  1. I lived in Maryland for a couple years and I actually never ate the crab cakes because most of them are made with mayo and I hate mayo. I really have no idea what else they put into them but yours sound delish!

  2. I love crab cakes!  I spend most of my summer on the maryland shore where I can get good crab cakes anywhere!  It’s like heaven on earth!

  3. I love Jessica’s cookbook – and that crab cake recipe and all my variations of it are huge favorites in our house! The blueberry corn salsa that she pairs with them is also delicious in its own right!

  4. They look and sound amazing to me! I also love your vase and flowers. So pretty and fun!

  5. I grew up on Cape Cod, so I’ve had my fair share of crab cakes. That being said, they’re all different. There are purists who wouldn’t dare add chopped peppers, and people who swear by the mayo-only binding. My favorites always had parsley, scallions, and lemon juice/zest inside and very little else. Further down the coast you start to see more mayo-based crab cakes with lots of Old Bay seasoning. These look great, though, and it looks like they turned out perfectly!

  6. I made these for dinner tonight!! So yummy!!
