Vacay-ing in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware! (Part 2)

We had SO much sunshine on the first half of our trip, but the last half was filled with all the rain.

I still was able to get out a couple mornings to walk to find a latte.

One morning, before the rain started, I go to see the most magical sunrise that made me fall in love with the East Coast.  Holy crap.  I mean, how completely gorgeous! I joked on Stories that it looked just like a Laguna Beach (West Coast) sunSET.

So.  Those tennis shoes I’m wearing in the below photo.  They are super old, so I ended up throwing them away before we traveled back home.  I think I’m gonna wait a while before I replace them and just stick to yoga + pilates + leisurely walks until I get a craving for another type of movement.  It was nice doing no structured exercise on vacation.  It was all just movement of vacation living:)  I did 1) yoga on the front porch when I felt like it, 2) we walked in the salty ocean air and 3) Andrew and I did float around in the house pool once (it was pretty cold though).

Walks + podcasts are still one of my favorite things to do.

This was the house we rented for the week.  Andrew’s mom did an excellent job at picking out the house for the trip.  It was perfect!  The house was actually for sale.  It could be yours if you have 2.9 million laying around lol.

For breakfasts…

one day I had 2 eggs topped with cheese on a slice of toast and then…

…we ventured to Fractured Prune to get some donuts.  I went with a cake donut + raspberry glaze + rainbow sprinkles.

Another day we got these sticky buns from a local bakery.  They were sold as five small-ish rolls all stuck together.  Obviously I took the ooey-est, gooey-est one from the center.  Served with eggs + toast + latte.

The last morning of the trip Andrew and I went and had crepes at an outdoor cafe that just had an outdoor window to walk up to and order your crepes.  We split two crepes and an iced vanilla latte.  The crepes were 1) ham + cheese + egg and 2) nutella + banana.  SO GOOD!

With all the rain, we had to find non-outdoor activities during the day.  I got a lot of blog work done, which is relaxing for me.  I finally got my exercise post up, which I wrote a draft for several months ago but hadn’t finished yet.  I also got my Mindful Eating Challenge going, which I’ve been wanting to do for forever! You just have to subscribe to my emails to join in on the challenge.

Another day we went shopping at the nearby outlets.  Andrew’s dad thinks it’s hilarious that everyone wears flannel now.  He’s been rocking flannel for forever.  Here we all our in our flannel :)

For lunches…

One day Andrew and I headed to GreenMan.

Kale-spinach-apple juice to start!

Then a sandwich with garlicky kale + chile spiked tofu + housemade pickles.  Root vegetable chips on the side.  The kale was a bit gritty.  I think they could have washed it better! But other than that, it was good!

Another day we ordered pizza from Grotto.  So tasty! I had a couple slices.

When we were out at the outlets, we stopped by Chipotle.  I went with a taco + guacamole + chips.  YUM.

One day I went with a grilled vegetable salad + salmon + lemon ricotta + balsamic drizzle.  Plus, a sample-sized beer that came in the cutest baby glass :)

Anytime in the afternoons when the rain let up, we got out of the house for a walk on the beach.  Gotta soak up that ocean air while I can!

One day we ventured over to the next town (Lewes!) to wander around.  Look how cute :)

For dinners…

One night, each couple went out by themselves for dinner.  Andrew and I choose this place…

This was my favorite meal of the trip food-wise.  I got crab cakes + a pickled corn slaw + fried fingerling potatoes + some delish dipping sauce.

Andrew went with a steak + asparagus + fingerling potatoes.

We were both full, but got the apple cranberry bread pudding to split.  I’m not the biggest bread pudding fan, but this one was like a apple pie + bread pudding fusion.  I really enjoyed it!

Another night for dinner with the whole group we went to Dewey Beer Co. We got a hummus plate to share.  Then I got a wedge salad with a crab cake.

Another night we went to Salt Air for appetizers.

Salmon dip!

Then back to the house for crab cakes + scallops + salad + (unpictured) french fries which were still baking when I snapped this photo.  Then a brownie Andrew and I shared!

Another night, since the menu at Salt Air looked so good when we went for apps, we decided to go back for dinner.

I got the shrimp, butternut squash & arugula orecchiette.  I try, but I’m really not a pasta person.  I adore gnocchi, but that’s really it.  I thought this meal was okay.  I actually hated the pesto that came on the bread.  It was not a basil pesto.  I think it may have been a parsley or kale pesto?  Not sure.  I do think the restaurant’s menu was super creative, I just ordered wrong for me.

If I went back to Salt Air, I’d probably get what my bro-in-law got, which was fried shrimp + coleslaw + sweet cornbread + fries.

That same night after Salt Air, Andrew’s sister and I wanted ice cream so we walked to Kilwins.  I’m so glad we did because we happened upon “walk you Golden Retriever night”, where there were over 200 golden retrievers out with their owners walking.  I tried to pet them all.  There were SOOO MANY! I’m such a dog person that I very nearly lost my mind with happiness.

Then we got ice cream.  Cake batter on a cone for me!

I was happy to get away for the week.  I don’t feel like I’ve had that relaxing of a vacation in a long time.  I enjoyed having absolutely nothing scheduled for the entire week.  So nice.  I did have a minor melt down yesterday about I’m not quite sure what.  But I’m excited to be getting back into the swing of things today.

I leave you with some Halloween costume inspiration.  How cute are these old person babies?!!

  1. All of the food looks so so good! What a lovely and much-deserved vacation. Stress/needless worry/anxiety hit me this weekend, and I had a meltdown of sorts. Working on calming exercises and thoughts to get myself out of this funk. Reading your blog, going on walks, and being with my fiancé and sister have helped to recharge me, though. Baby steps. :) Hope you have a great day!

  2. YES to walks + podcasts. I LOVE that and need to bring it back in my life over lunch, even if I only walk inside since it’s now getting cold out :(
