Meal inspiration for ya

YAY! The weekend is almost here.  If you’re a weekend meal planner, here are some meal / snack ideas for you for next week.

breakfast

Wednesday I went out for an early breakfast date at Adair Kitchen with a friend.  Half sweet vanilla latte + chocolate croissant + turkey bacon.  My tastebuds have always loved turkey bacon more than regular bacon.  I always think it tastes like bacon jerky.  Totally fab.

This is a past photo from vacation, but I’ve been on an oatmeal kick.  Oats cooked in 2% or whole milk with banana whipped in.  Then topped with blueberries + peanut butter + cinnamon + brown sugar.  It’s my tastebud’s perfect bowl of oats.

Another vacation breakfast was french toasting a blueberry muffin.  If you’ve never french toasted a blueberry muffin, it’s worth a try.

lunch

Even in the second trimester, I’m still feeling a lack of appetite a lot around lunch and dinner time.  My appetite is there for me at breakfast time, but for the rest of the day it disappears.  There is usually hunger throughout the day, but often nothing sounds good.  Most meals are eaten to take away hunger…not for a gourmet experience.  I’m a big fan of eating every 3 hours.  That is what works best for my body & blood sugar levels – pre-pregnancy and still now in pregnancy.

One day this week I stopped by Whole Foods and picked up a Buffalo Chicken Wrap.  It was tasty and I’d get it again.

dinner

salad + pizza.

chipotle taco’s to-go.

snacks

glazed blueberry cake donut + canned latte.

granola bar with nut butter smeared on top.

greek yogurt + honey.  Not having a snack RIGHT BEFORE I go to bed is not an option in pregnancy.  If I don’t have a snack I wake up in the middle of the night hungry…no thank you.  I choose to eat adequately during the day so I can sleep through the night.  I imagine once baby girl is here, sleeping through the night isn’t going to be an option early on…so I wanna get as much sleep now as I possibly can :)

What’s the most satisfying thing you’ve eaten this week?

  1. It keeps blowing my mind that you can frenchtoast all kinds of breads/muffins/etc…why doesn’t that ever occur to me to try?! Sounds delish.

The most satisfying thing I’ve eaten this week? A big ol’ waffle, covered in custard and a mountain of fruit. I had the happiest, fullest belly.

  2. I love these posts! Right now I’m not pregnant, but I’ve been waking up super early(3-4 hrs earlier than my norm) ravenously hungry, like my body just flipping out with urgent hunger. What is this about?! I don’t know.
What I do know is that it gets groggy me all stumbling around the kitchen @ 3:30 am trying to think of something that sounds good to eat, that would be filling and satisfying, but not too heavy that would keep me from going back to sleep. So food inspiration posts help!

  3. My husband and I recently purchased a grill so this week we made “grill packets” of corn, shrimp, potatoes, and sausage, topped with butter, so much lemon and HEAPS of old bay (we live in MD haha). It’s the most summery meal ever!

  4. The most satisfying thing I’ve eaten this week was yesterday–cinnamon sugar donut holes from a food truck. I was craving a donut and these hit the spot! I was so happy.

  5. Yum! I need to try French toasting a muffin, that sounds amazing. The most satisfying thing I ate was Thai green curry. I haven’t had it in forever so it really hit the spot!

  6. I’ve been craving yogurt lately (don’t know what this is about but I’m rolling with it), but it doesn’t keep me very full so I mix in a scoop of bob’s red mill chocolate protein powder, a handful of walnuts, and a handful of my favorite puffins peanut butter cereal. Something about preparing and eating it is such a satisfying part of my day :)

  7. I think you just inspired me to grab a donut as my snack after work this evening! ;) Looks so tasty!

  8. One of the most satisfying meals was a throw-together pasta salad that I made for myself, my husband, and my twin sister for dinner on Tuesday. :) It included marinated artichoke salad, jarred mushrooms, canned French green beans, chickpeas, penne pasta, extra virgin olive oil, dried peppers, garlic, and mozzarella. I’m having it for lunch today too, which I’m looking forward to!

  9. Looove that justin’s hazelnut butter! The most satisfying thing I ate this week was probably Chipotle. It was satisfying not just because of the taste but also because I was with my husband, my best friend, and her husband whom we hadn’t seen in awhile :)

  10. It wasn’t necessarily the most satisfying thing but I was proud and happy with myself. I ate at McDonald’s TWICE today. Regular folks probably don’t see this as a ‘happy meal’ (ha see what i did there) but I am working my way out of disordered eating! I didn’t bring any food for a 12 hour shift and its less than a block from work. Feeding myself was healthier than the fretting, worrying, not eating and then inevitable binge that would have happened when I got home. Also the maple bacon dijon chicken sandwich is the ish!
