One of Jojo’s favorite foods lately has been french toast.  It’s likely her favorite food because it’s easy for me to make her, so she ends up eating it a lot because it’s really quick for me to whip it up haha!

Sometimes I serve it to her just as is, but the other week I added a powdered peanut butter sauce on top of it as an easy way to continue incorporating peanut foods into her life.  As I’ve talked about about before, the recommendation for preventing peanut allergies in children with no eczema or other food allergies is to introduce food that contains peanuts when you are introducing other solid foods.  This introduction of peanut foods should be done in accordance with family preferences and cultural practices.  Jo started showing interest in solid foods around 5 months, so we introduced peanut containing foods then and we aim to have her eat something containing peanuts regularly, which for us usually means 1-3 times a week.

peanut butter french toast for baby Jojo

Yield: serves one Joanna

Total Time: 6 minutes


french toast
1 slice of bread with the crust cut off
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
dash cinnamon
couple drops vanilla extract

peanut sauce
2 teaspoons powdered peanut butter
2-3 teaspoons warm water, breastmilk or formula


In a bowl, whisk together egg, milk, cinnamon and vanilla.  Add in bread and allow to soak 2 minutes on each side.  In a skillet with some butter, cook french toast over medium heat ~2 minutes on each side (or until cooked through).  I like to leave it as soft as possible since Jo doesn't have teeth to chew.  Once cooked through, slice it into strips baby can easily grab and allow it to cool slightly.

In a small bowl, mix together powdered peanut butter with warm water, breastmilk or formula.  Spoon this peanut sauce over the strips of french toast.
