The best no-bake monster oat balls.

By popular demand…my favorite no-bake oat ball recipe!

I’ve mentioned these oat balls from Bless This Mess a million times on Instagram and here on the blog.  My favorite are her monster oat balls, but I make them slightly different and always double the recipe.  I’ve had many requests on Instagram to share the exact recipe I make, so here it is.

These no-bake oat balls make for a great snack or a fast breakfast.  I love them because they always taste good to me.  I can get tired of a lot of snacks, but these are a solid go-to for me. Enjoy!

No-bake monster oat balls

Yield: makes 20ish oat balls

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

2 cups old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup + 1 heaping tbsp honey
1/2 cup + 1 heaping tbsp peanut butter
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
1/2 cup m&ms
1/4 teaspoon salt

optional add-in: heaping tbsp ground flaxseed

Directions:

In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together.  I usually use my hands. Then roll "dough" into 20ish balls.  Ideally let them chill in the fridge an hour before eating. Store them in the fridge!

recipe slightly adapted from these. If they oat balls seem dry, just add more peanut butter and/or honey until they aren't anymore.

  1. I love these so much but I can’t eat them because the raw oats tear up my stomach. Do you think they would be similar if I toasted the oats??

  2. I’ve always wanted to make these but I can’t stand peanut butter or any but butter really.. any ideas??? Sending love, hope and peace as always ?

    • Hmmm it may be best to just stick with regular cookies! I can’t think of a good way to bind these together without nut butter. Maybe another reader will have an idea and comment!

    • Do you like bananas? I sometimes bind my energy balls with a mashed banana, you can eat them the way they are or lightly bake in the oven.

    • I made these with coconut butter and they were delish! Not sure if you include that in your nut butter aversion…

    • Thank you for the suggestions! Keen to try both and find one that works well. :))

    • I know this is a very old post, but just came across it and wanted to contribute….
I’ve used just dates or a combination of dates and pumpkin puree in oat ball/energy ball recipes before. With this recipe, I would adjust the amount of honey (or possibly eliminate it altogether) as the dates are already pretty sweet on their own. I just soak pitted dates in boiling water for about 10 minutes, put them in the food processor to break them up, and then, depending on the other ingredients, either take them out and add them to the rest of the mix if I have things I don’t want too processed or add the other ingredients to the food processor and pulse a couple times to mix everything together.

    • What about cookie butter? ☺️

  3. Ahh LOVE energy bites/oat balls!  Can’t wait to try these!

  4. I love these so much! I’ve made them every few weeks since you first posted about them on your IG story… They’re SO good!
Just a real quick unrelated question: what plugin/widget do you use to insert recipes into your posts? I’m new to wordpress and can’t quite figure it out! :)

    • I used to use Recipe Card! I believe what I’m using now was custom made by my developer…but I could be wrong because I have no idea about the backend of the blog haha :)

  5. I want to make these for a friend to have as a snack once she has a baby. Have you ever froze these?

    • I haven’t, but I have to believe they’d be fine if frozen and then just left to thaw in the fridge for a couple of days! They’d be a great gift for a friend with a baby!

  10. How many do you eat for a snack? I’m working through mechanical eating right now and my dietitian likes me to have a carb and a protein for a snack. Would these fulfill the carb or protein or both? Thanks!!

  14. I’m 21 weeks preggo…the desire to cook is nonexistent. Was trying to find an easy, nourishing, tasty snack. I was skeptical–I have made things like this before and not liked them (prob because the recipes used way too little sweetener). Anyway, made these and holy muffins they are so good! I had two as my mid-morning snack…so fab. Thank you! Will definitely be one of the treats I prep for postpartum!!!
