Fighting back.

I’ve been having a bout of a pretty bummed out mood and have been more self critical about silly stuff. For instance, “why are you grocery shopping at 7pm? You should’ve done this during the day!” –> critical about morally neutral things like this that don’t matter. I find myself not super excited for Christmas and ready for the season to be over, which is so odd for me! To fight back, I journaled the below this morning and it helped me…so I felt like sharing.

Devil, you are a leech. A disgusting wretch. An evil, powerful force in my life that wreaks havoc. But GOD! GOD! Rich in mercy and more powerful than you on your best day. You disgusting wretch, leave me. In the name of Jesus, give back what you’ve stollen – my excitement, my joy, my energy – and go. The battle has already been won. The serpent’s head has already been crushed by the cross. I send you away, devil. In the name of Jesus, leave.

When I’m feeling the lies of the devil coming in, I don’t find relief from going for a run or numbing out in some other way. What I need? Worshiping with fight songs and reframing lies from the devil. So that’s what I’ll do.

Fight song: Take it all back

Reframing lies: (LIE/FEELING) My life isn’t a good one. —> (TRUTH) My family life is fab. I have the promises of God and an eternity with Him on the horizon. I have the means and training to provide care and a lot of fun for my girls. I HAVE THREE GIRLS! WHAT A MAGICAL AND DREAMY TRUTH!

It’s not easy, but I’ll keep on keeping on fighting the good fight and this too will pass.

In an attempt to put a little pep in my step, I went grocery shopping yesterday to get stuff to make for Christmas breakfast. I’ll be making the best homemade cinnamon rolls smeared in cream cheese icing from the can + this spinach-gruyere strata. What are you planning on making? Christmas morning has to be one of the best meals of the year with the joyous atmosphere and no expectations but to lounge. How great.

And, for cookies for Santa, there is no better recipe than this sugar cookie one. They always get rave reviews from everyone who tries them – the almond extract makes ’em.

Here’s a batch we made a couple days ago for cookie decorating with friends:

Cookie dough snack!

SANTA! These came out so cute. Can’t wait to make another batch.

Merry *almost* Christmas!

  1. Amen! Merry Christmas :)

  2. I can relate lately! Love the reframing. So helpful. This was so encouraging to read. Thank you! The Santa cookie is so cute. Mry Christmas! :)

  3. I love how you reframed the great lie and shared with us! We all need this depending on what’s going on in our lives, or the seasons of life, or just whenever! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!

  4. Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been feeling unnaturally and unnecessarily “down” lately , too, and definitely needing to remind myself to turn to God alone (and more often!) for the joy and energy I feel I lack.

Also, you’re Christmas food menu sounds similar to ours! My husband requested cinnamon rolls and we already made his family’s sour cream sugar cookie recipe. (For my husband, it doesn’t feel like Christmas until he has those cookies. :) )

    Merry Christmas celebrating our Savior!

  5. Keep fighting! Thank you for sharing this-so inspiring.
